Perissa is a small town on the southeast coast of the Greek island of Santorini, a few kilometers from the village of Emporio and about 15 km from the city of Fira. This is one of the best and most popular resort centers of the island with a well-developed tourist infrastructure and a wide variety of entertainment.
In Perissa you will find everything you need for a comfortable stay - an excellent beach with black volcanic sand, which is considered one of the best on the island, the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, a wide selection of accommodation for every taste and budget (cozy hotels, comfortable apartments and a camping ), shops, markets, many excellent restaurants and taverns. At the disposal of fans of noisy parties and dances until the morning - night clubs of Perissa, and for fans of outdoor activities - various types of water sports (water skiing, sailing, diving, etc.) and entertaining excursions.
At the northern end of Perissa beach rises the famous rocky cape Mesa Vuno - a huge rock of fantastic beauty, from the top of which there are stunning panoramic views. But to rise to its top is not only for unforgettable landscapes, it is here that at an altitude of almost 400 m above sea level is one of the main attractions of the island, as well as an important archaeological site - the ruins of the ancient city of Tire. On the slopes of Mesa Vuno you will find the small church of Panagia Katefiani, and at the foot of the cliff - the ruins of the early Christian basilica of St. Irina. However, the island is relatively small and if you came here not for a one-day visit, you will have time to visit other sights of Santorini.
Perissa beach is located in the southeast of the island, on the opposite shore from Fira (only 12 km) and Oia, at the foot of the resort of the same name. The length of its coast is almost 7 km, the coastal strip is quite wide. The location of the beach near the mountains creates ideal conditions for a relaxing holiday. Low cliffs on the shore protect the beach from strong winds and waves, while access to the coast is almost not difficult.

- It is almost never windy here, which is very rare for the beaches of this island of Greece.
- The shore and bottom are sandy, with gray and black volcanic sand, which in places is mixed with small pebbles of the same color.
- The bottom is rocky in places and can be very slippery, so when bathing here you should be careful not to get hurt on the stones.
- When the sea is calm, the water here is incredibly clear, so you can enjoy flocks of fish and go snorkeling.

Almost all along the coast, the entry into the sea is smooth, a great depth begins only a few meters from the coast. The most gentle entrance to the water on the northern edge of the beach, near the mountain that separates this coast from Camari. Therefore, Perissa is an ideal place for families with children to relax. When is the best time to go?
Greece is a country with a long stretch from north to south, so recommendations will vary depending on where you are heading. The holiday season begins in May and reaches a peak in July-August: there are too many tourists, and the temperature on the southern islands reaches 40 degrees, which may still not play a role on the beach, but certainly not suitable for sightseeing. So the best time to relax in Greece is the end of spring-beginning of summer or September-October.
In the hot season (from July to September) Perissa pleases guests with a well-developed infrastructure. The beach is well equipped, despite its length. There are showers and changing cabins; lifeguards work during the season. Sun beds and umbrellas are usually issued in those cafes that are located nearby.

The village has many different shops, and along the promenade there are various cafes, restaurants and taverns. Night clubs are also missing. Especially lively in the evenings on the promenade, where discos work, and incendiary music sounds in taverns.
Near Perissa beach there are many small hotels. Here you can find a decent and relatively the most affordable housing on the island for a few days' stop. Apartments for rent by the sea are also for rent.

The resort is more suitable for young people and active people. The main part of restaurants, taverns, bars is located along the coast and is separated from the beach by a narrow road. But even though there are discos here, the town as a whole is calm and you can find quiet areas. Nevertheless, the main party takes place in the village of Perivolos - in the neighborhood.
In the evening, the promenade is lively, some restaurants have live music. There are shops, but this place is not very suitable for shopping.
Sea and beach
The coast stretches for 3 km. Perissa beach is very beautiful, with black volcanic sand. Equipped with toilet, shower and dressing room. Sun loungers and umbrellas are paid, but if you make an order in a coastal restaurant or bar, then they are provided for free.
The entrance to the sea, although gentle, but already a couple of meters from the shore, the bottom goes sharply deep. On the coast there are water activities, diving, snorkeling, you can play volleyball or soccer.
The beaches of Perivolos and Agios Georgios are nearby and there is no clear border between them, so the total length of the coastline at this place is about 7 km.
There are several attractions near and around Perissa. In the village itself you can see the church of Timiu Stavru. On the mountain is the chapel of Panagia Katefiani. In the past, locals used it when raiding enemies. It offers great panoramic views. Nearby, at the foot are the ruins of the ancient Basilica of St. Irene, in honor of which the island is named Santorini. The building was built in the 5th century A.D.
If you visit the resort during the holidays, you will see colorful parades, fairs, theatrical performances. Almost all of them occur at the end of August - mid-September:

How to get to Perissa from the airport
The village of Perissa is located 15 km from Santorini International Airport, from there you can get by various transport.
1. The bus.
From the airport to Fira 10 times a day there is a bus that arrives at Santorini bus station. There you need to transfer to another, going directly to the resort. They go 16 times a day, every 45-60 minutes. The fare is 2.3 euros. Drive less than half an hour with all the stops. There are also express trains that will be delivered in 20 minutes.
2. Car rental.
To visit interesting places in Santorini, it is most convenient to use a car. The airport has the best selection of rental offices, and they can also be found in some of the popular settlements on the island.
Or rent a car in advance. In season, the service is very popular.
If you do not want to wait for the bus, then directly to the resort you can always get a taxi. It can be taken on arrival at the exit from the airport.
Shuttle services can also be booked in advance. Then you will be met with a sign and taken directly to the hotel.
There are several dozen hotels in Perissa. The bulk are 3 and 4 stars. You can also live in villas or rent apartments. You can live on 1 line, right by the sea, or you can at some distance, which usually comes out cheaper. Since the resort is popular, rooms should be booked in advance.
How to get to Perissa
The resort is located 15 km from Fira and Santorini International Airport. You can get to Perissa in 20 minutes by bus. Also, the city is connected by bus with Iya, Pyrgos, Kamari, Imerovigli. To get to the place of rest as quickly as possible, you can rent a car at Santorini Airport - there are representative offices of rental offices.

One of the reasons to visit Perissa is its beach, located at the foot of the cliff of Mesa Vuno. It stretches for 7 km and is covered with black volcanic sand. The beach is well equipped: there are sun loungers, taverns work, water activities are available. The entrance to the sea is mostly gentle, but there are areas with rocky formations - frozen lava. On the coast of Perissa there are sports grounds for playing volleyball or soccer.
In the summer season, Perissa offers a large selection of leisure activities. Preserving its traditional character, the village is filled with modern infrastructure: restaurants and taverns, bars and shops. Local tourist offices are ready to organize boat trips to the caldera and cities of Santorini. Perissa is a busy city, so it’s easy to find nightclubs and parties for every taste.
