The village of Div at the mouth of the river of the same name has been known since Roman times. In 858, the Vikings sailed here and moved along the river Div into the interior of the mainland, plundering Chartres. The main page of the history of Diva was written in 1066 - here William I the Conqueror gathered his fleet and sailed to England. A memorial plaque has been erected in the local church, on which the names of 475 associates of William are carved.
In the following centuries, Div prospered as a fishing port, and from the mid-19th century began to turn into a seaside resort. The proximity to the sea and the railway at the end of the 19th century gave Diva another direction of development. In 1891, a large metallurgical plant was built here, which turned the city into a large industrial center of regional significance. In 1986, the plant was closed, after which the city again began to focus on marine recreation and tourism.
