Guam gorge

Guam Gorge - a wonderful natural monument. The broken line of the narrow gorge stretches for three kilometers between the villages of Mezmay and Guamka. The walls of the gorge rise to a height of four hundred meters, along the bottom of this magnificent canyon runs the raging Kurdzhips River.

Over its history, the gorge more than once witnessed fierce battles. According to one version, the name Guam itself comes from the name of a young Adyghe commander who defeated the Turkish army here in 1717. Having lured the enemy into the gorge, the Adyghe people caused a collapse that blocked the exit, and then they shot down the Turks from the high walls of the gorge with arrows and stones.

A narrow gauge railway was laid in the gorge. Now tourists are carrying it. A train of three wagons leaves from the Mezmay village to the Cosmonaut's House - a small cafe in the middle of the gorge. The rails are laid on a narrow platform, knocked out in a rock - on one side the walls of the gorge rise, on the other below, under the cliff, Kurdzhips makes noise. The second half of the gorge can be visited on foot.

Bizarre forms of gigantic rocks, waterfalls falling from a great height, an extraordinary variety of vegetation that adorned the stone walls of the gorge - all this is worth seeing with your own eyes.

A place of power, Russian Shambhala is a wild, but quite a paradise for nature lovers. The geoanomalous zone of the Lagonaki Highlands, in which Mezmay is located, makes this place unusual. Here is not just a special energy, here is a different flow of time, slowed down and relaxed. In the vicinity of the village, which in itself is unbanal, there are many natural attractions.

The picturesque mountain landscape, gorges, waterfalls, grottoes, clear resinous air, a bewitching view of the Caucasus Range - here you can walk along hiking trails, or you can just contemplate. The village has a camp site, and tourism infrastructure is constantly evolving.

Here, at the confluence of the Rufabgo and Bachurin streams, a majestic one-hundred-meter-high rock with a flat, forested peak rises.

At its foot a lot of rocky cliffs of the most bizarre shapes and various sizes are piled up. One of these breaks is called the Sail. This huge flat triangular stone with its upper end rests on the wall of the gorge, forming a kind of arch through which the path passes. Rock Sail, densely entwined with ivy, is very picturesque.

In photo mode, you can view sights in Maykop only by photos.

Caucasian Biosphere Reserve

The Caucasian Biosphere Reserve is one of the first Russian reserves. Initially, the land on which it is located was used as hunting grounds of the Grand Dukes, but already at that time there was talk of the need to preserve the bison population and create a reserve. It was possible to carry out these plans only under the Soviet regime - the reserve was founded in 1924 in the mountains of the western Caucasus.

The Caucasus Nature Reserve is the largest in Europe; on its area of two hundred eighty thousand hectares, unique ecosystems of mountains and foothills are preserved. More than half of the reserve is covered with pristine forest; alpine meadows and glacial landscapes are represented in it. More than three thousand plant species grow in the reserve, including relict trees such as yew and boxwood. Particular pride of the reserve are fir forests. The animal world is also extremely diverse. Here the populations of the Kuban tour and the Caucasian red deer, bears, lynxes and, of course, bison are preserved.

For tourists, guided tours of the reserve are organized. You can visit the aviary complex for wild animals, take a walk along the relic Khostinsky tisosamshitovoy grove, see the picturesque mountain gorge Devil's Gate.

This means that in it you can safely walk along special paths and freely admire the bizarre and fascinating piles of underground formations in the light of spotlights. It is one of the five most beautiful caves in Russia, has several tiers and many different stalactites and stalagmites. A series of halls of the underworld consistently reveals a variety of stone forms and makes you respect the inner life of the earth, which is so breathtakingly beautiful.

As often happens in such cases, some particularly expressive natural forms are considered happy and bring good luck if you touch them. Healing water is considered and from the underground river. They also note the special energy of this space, which has the most beneficial effect on a person.

Mount Oshten

On a clear day, from the capital of Adygea, the city of Maykop, you can see far in the south a mighty mountain peak covered with eternal ice. Separated from Mount Fisht by a deep gorge, Mount Oshten attracts Russian and foreign tourists who want to feel the harsh but magnificent beauty of its mountain scenery.

The name of the mountain in Adyghe means "eternal snow." Indeed, the mountain is notable for its glaciers, which are located below and to the west of all other glaciers of the Caucasus. They also called it “the mountain where the ax is dropped” because of the inaccessibility of its peaks. From the north and south the mountain is surrounded by hiking trails. There is something to see here - the north side of the mountain rises with huge stone crests. And on the southern slopes of Oshten, in addition to mountain beauties, you can meet the Caucasian chamois. These graceful animals move in small herds from cliff to cliff.

Meshoko Gorge

Meshoko Gorge, which stretches along the stream of the same name, is located south of the village of Kamennomostsky in Adygea. Like many other channels of small rivers flowing into the White, the gorge deserves the attention of tourists with picturesque waterfalls and many grottoes in its rocky walls.

First, the trail will lead you to a huge grotto in which primitive people once lived. The Meshoko Valley is replete with archaeological finds of the time. Then, passing a small spring with clean water, you will be taken to a viewing platform with a beautiful view of the entire gorge.

From here you go down to the canyon itself, to the first of a series of waterfalls. This waterfall is the highest and most powerful in the gorge. Behind it you will see a cascade of small, but no less beautiful waterfalls. The Gorka waterfall deserves mention - in the bowl at its foot local children like to swim.

Along the entire canyon you can see many easily accessible small caves and grottoes. They say that in some of them you can find traces of the primitive man.

A walk along the gorge takes no more than four hours and does not require special physical training.

Ammonite Valley

The ammonite valley is a site with shells of cephalopods, extinct millions of years ago.

On some fossils, the relief of spiral shells is noticeable. The diameter of the shells is from 10 to 20 mm. The greatest number of ammonites can be found along the Belaya River (between the village of Tula and Hadzhokh gorge). Inspection of the valley is recommended to start with a bridge over the Belaya River.

The most valuable finds of the Ammonite Valley are in the Rock Garden (Valley Museum). All roads from Maykop to Kamennomostsky pass through this museum. Notice it is easy - the building is painted pink.

However, having bought a ticket, you can see the “3 brothers” waterfall, as well as from a different angle evaluate the beauty of the rest. Behind the 3 Brothers Waterfall there is a meadow with gazebos, attractions, cafes, and souvenir shops.
